    Choosing from the pool of engineering management dissertation topics is honestly one of the most underestimated decisions you’ll make in your whole programme — pick something too broad and you’ll drown, too niche and you’ll run out of literature fast. From what I’ve seen, the strongest topics sit at the intersection of real-world industry problems and solid academic frameworks — things like sustainable supply chain management, risk assessment in infrastructure projects, or the impact of digital transformation on engineering teams. These give you enough scope to build a strong argument without losing focus.

    My go-to advice is always pick something you’re at least a little curious about because you’re going to be living with this topic for months. Also think about data access early — the best topic in the world falls apart if you can’t actually gather evidence to support it. Talk to your supervisor before you commit, run your idea by them, and save yourself the pain of switching halfway through
